This week in:
Math: We will continue working on our math facts. The students must be very confident with their facts before we move forward. Your continued support at home is very evident in class.
Subtraction and Separating - Connecting addition and subtraction
I am sending home a math story problem. Students should answer one question each night and return on Friday.
Graphing
Language Arts:
Writers’ Workshop - We will generate a list of ideas they would like to write about
Genre - Realistic Fiction - A story using made up characters that could happen in real life.
Conventions - Capitalizing books, months, days, and holidays

Poetry - Select poems by Bruce Lansky
Story - Mi Familia
Novel - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
Word Study - Short Vowels o, u and e - Spelling Words Attached

Comprehension - Compare and Contrast
Book of Virtues - “Diamonds and Toads”
Social Studies: We will begin our Me on the Map unit. The children will identify cities, states, countries, and continents. They will also learn cardinal directions and how to use a map key.
Geography: What is a Map?
Music of the Week: We will listen to the Preamble and a song about the continents.
Technology: creating wordels
Character Development - We will continue to cover the social graces and manners that will be expected throughout the year. Kindness and Compassion will be reinforced as we read stories throughout the week.

Look for our first POW coming home today.
Most of the work students did last week will go into their “Time Capsule”. Therefore, they won’t have many assignments coming home tomorrow.
